Knitting, etc.

Okay, hopefully this post will make more sense than the last long one I posted! I'm not really sure what happened there... Let's see...

My knitting. I started knitting this pattern but I think I'm going to add some sort of sleeves to it. Either cap sleeves or long sleeves if I have enough yarn. Either that, or I'll leave the sleeves off altogether and have a neat vest. It's going to take a while to knit, because I'm using really thin yarn. I started it on Tuesday, and so far this is all I've gotten done! :)

I finished my history book today!!!

It's finally getting warm enough that I got my box of summer clothes out of the attic. The clothes are now in a pile on my bed and the cat is sleeping on them... Okay, I'm glad she's happy. *rolls eyes*

It sounds like we've got a lot to do this weekend...Mom ordered some blueberry bushes so Dad and I might be digging holes tomorrow...maybe not. I'm not sure when the plants are coming. We need to get to Lowes and get some tomato plants. One, or maybe two tomato plants. No more than that!! And green peppers...no, wait those aren't supposed to be planted until May according to my vegetable book. Okay, no peppers yet.

I've got a nice little guide published by the NC Cooperative Extension Service that lists when various vegetable are supposed to be planted and what varieties are best for here. We picked up the booklet at the state fair a few years ago...when was that we went to the state fair? '03 or '04...but I hadn't used it much until last year. It's very handy...I just realized I need to get green beans planted pretty soon.

Okay, what was I talking about? Oh, this weekend... our next-door neighbors' grass needs mowing, but that might just have to wait till during the week.

My friend Zoe is going to the Father and Daughter Retreat with her dad this weekend. Ha...Doug Phillips...hmm... He has a system for everything. And most of the systems seem to involve buying stuff he sells and going to the retreats he arranges. Dad was joking that we should have gone, since Zoe and her dad are going. Mmm-hmm. I told Dad I'd help him install the kitchen faucet this weekend instead. :p That's more my style.

(Oh how annoying! There is a gnat or mosquito or something that keeps flying in front of the computer screen...)

This is neat-looking:

Okay, I think I'll go see what I need to be working on and maybe get some sewing done...or go for a walk...it's really nice out.

Hmmm...that isn't the father-shaving retreat, is it?

Yep, it sure is! :P

I'd choose changing the faucet too!!!

That is slightly disturbing...

I LOVE what you're knitting and you go so fast if you only started Tuesday!! Wow, you're 'mazing!

Two tomato plants? That's it? Lucky duck! My mom buys six to eight and yes, we pick every single ripe tomato along with all the ripe green peppers on the four plants we buy, dozens and dozens of green onions, cucumbers, sweat peas, and many many other plants. I'm sure when we actually plant them that there will be a post and you can get caught up on our gardening there. :) We do a lot of gardening.

Ummm, maybe I should know this, but was is that last picture of? I'm really sorry to say this if it is wrong but it looks like chicken wire. :) I like chicken wire, seriously, I'm not joking!

And the gnat or mosquito thing cracked me up! :)

I posted about the tomatoes...um, here. We just don't eat that many tomatoes and we always end up with a bunch of them! :)

It's not chicken wire, although that would be kind of funny! It's soap suds on a mirror. There were soap suds in the sink the other day when I was drying my hair, and I accidentally blew them out of the sink with the hair dryer.

I was trying to get a clearer picture, but that's the best I got...the camera focused on the surface of the mirror.

Yes, Rebecca, slightly...or not so much that, but the whole, um...system. But we've talked about that!

I really like that sweater pattern, and I like the color you're using.

Ah Doug Phillips! There is much I could say, he is a very passionate man and some of Vision Forum's ideas are things more people in the Christian community as a whole should be doing but the way they are expressed sometimes could be borderline legalistic. And as to the stuff he sells, Vision Forum ministries is separate from their store. The ministry is a 501c3, while the store is mostly for profit unless it has changed.

Soup bubbles! Duh! I could have seen that. Well, chicken wire or not, I think it is a very neat picture.

Will, I agree that some of Vision Forum's ideas are good...most of them issues our family and church would agree with...

But there seems to be a lack of reality in their thinking. They don't seem to realize that not everyone has a home-business where the kids can help their dads and the dad is home all the time. And that sometimes daughters aren't able to stay at home, or other things like that. A bit of idealism is one thing, ignoring reality is totally different...as in, their ideas only work if you have a perfect family setting to implement them, otherwise, they're not very helpful.

And as you said, legalism...I guess that's what really bugs me the most, this feeling that unless you do things the way Doug Phillips thinks you should, and go to the retreats and seminars, buy the proper stuff from the catalog, etc., etc., that you're not really doing all you should to properly raise a family.

And doesn't it seem like they don't mention moms very much? Like, the fathers and daughters and sons are all off being visionary, while the poor mom's stuck at home keeping the whole family going! :D

Or she is confused as to what she is if her daughter is her husband's helpmeet...

Sorry...if that sounds too snarky you don't have to post it!

Yeah, I meant that too, Rebecca! "Okay, you're daddy's helpmeet. Oh, now you're married, okay, make sure your daughters have matching dresses..." The being a helpmeet to your dad is strange...um, that's the wife's job.
