Busy, busy, dreadfully busy

So... I got up early (ugh) and took Dad to work, then I came home and ate breakfast. Then I did my morning chores, and then I headed out to Kernersville.

It takes about a half hour to get out to Kernersville, plus I then managed to get lost! I was on S. Main which turns into N. Main, but then there's a split, and if you keep going left (which is straightest) it turns into a different road. And it wasn't clearly marked, it was raining, I had someone right behind me, and I failed to print out the maps to go with my directions because they were so small they wouldn't have helped anyway. So I ended up on Pine-something-or-other, and had to turn around and go back.

I did however, stop at the gas station that was right at the split and got gas, because it was only $3.11 there! Only...but it was about $3.18 back in Winston.

So I'm figuring out how to use the gas pump, because it wasn't wanting to take my debit card at first, I get that figured out and the gas pumping...and the older guy on the other side of the pump starts talking to me.

First about the weather, and how it's gotten cold again. I agree, as I'm shivering and trying to snap my coat closed while talking.

Then he goes on to the gas prices, and how it's supposed to be up to four dollars by June, and people out in California are paying five dollars. And it's almost not worth driving, it would be better to get a bike, but then someone would probably run you off the road.

Next, he starts in on telling cheesy jokes that I've heard before, something about a bird that got trapped in the refrigerator, so they gave it gas, and it started flying around, but then it fell back to the floor because it ran out of gas. I couldn't find that one anywhere online so I could post it. I did find this one, which he also told me:

Julie, the blond, was getting pretty desperate for money. She decided to go to the nicer, richer neighborhoods around town and look for odd jobs as a handy woman.

The first house she came to, a man answered the door and told Julie,"Yeah, I have a job for you. How would you like
to paint the porch?"

"Sure that sounds great!" said Julie.

"Well, how much do you want me to pay you?" asked the man.

"Is fifty bucks all right?" Julie asked.

"Yeah, great. You'll find the paint and ladders you'll need in the garage."

The man went back into his house to his wife who had been listening.

"Fifty bucks! Does she know the porch goes all the way around the house?" asked the wife.

"Well, she must, she was standing right on it!" her husband replied.

About 45 minutes later, Julie knocked on the door. "I'm all finished," she told the surprised homeowner. The man was amazed.

"You painted the whole porch?"

"Yeah," Julie replied, "I even had some paint left, so I put on two coats!"

The man reached into his wallet to pay Julie.

"Oh, and by the way," said Julie, "That's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

So I laughed, and he keeps talking, and then he notices the tires on our car, "Oh you've
got nitrogen in the tires don't you? Since the valve-caps are green? That's good, I've got that in all of my tires. I've got four cars I have to take care of, two Mercedes, and this truck, and my other car." I agree that, yes, we do have nitrogen in the tires.

All this while, the pump is running really, really slow, so this is taking forever! Well, his finally got done, so he tells me to have a good day, and he goes off to pay for his gas. The pump went fast after the other side wasn't being used, so I got done fairly fast after that, and as I was leaving I saw him talking with a couple people outside the door...he hadn't even made it in yet to pay for the gas! :D

So, that was my excitement for the day! :P After I got gas, I managed to get on the right road,
and found the lady's house pretty easily after that. She was really nice, and I talked to her and her daughter while I looked at the yarn, and I ended up getting this stuff for a nice soft scarf:

And I got this to mix with something else and make a scarf for my grandma:

And I got a bunch of this stuff, it's kind of sparkly. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with it, but it's black so I'll find something to make with it:

Plus she had some rubber stamps for sale too, so I got these two:

I was expecting her to have more plain yarn, but she mainly had a lot of fun-fur type stuff.

It was raining the whole time I was out, and I was very glad we have tires with good tread, because it kept the hydro-planing at a minimum! :) I was on the highway too, and I really prefer driving on the highway when it's raining, because on the highway, people can only do a few crazy things, like drifting into the other lanes, or driving at odd speeds.

And I stopped by my friend's house on the way home and looked through clothes and talked, and then I came home and ate lunch, and by then it was time to leave to pick Dad up, because we needed to run by the library and the craft store while we were out.

I think there were other little spaces of free time in there, but I certainly feel like I've been on the go all day!

I was also explaining to Mom how when I go home from the med school, at one traffic light there's a double turn lane, opening onto a four-lane road...well, if I'm in the lane towards the middle, and I stay in that lane while I turn, it's always clear in front of me, because everyone else in that lane goes over to the right further, and obviously the people in the left lane can't cut in front. Like so (the circled car with the"M" is me):

Dad said he's noticed that too. Anyway, I was going to point it out to Mom when I turned, but of course, what happened? The two cars in front of me stayed in the same lane too.

Now I'm going to go eat supper (homemade pizza, yum!) and then head over to the ice rink...turns out I don't have to pick my friend up, so I get a little more time to eat my pizza.

I'm going to try to take pictures tonight, if I can figure out what to do with my camera when I'm not using it. I need to see if it will fit in my pocket...I'm guessing it won't! :D

Ah nitrogen in the tires! You're the first person I have come across who is using it. Have you noticed any significant increase in MPG? Supposedly according to the= nitrogen website I would save myself close to $100 a year in gas. Since I think Costco will put it in for free when you get new tires and in 3000 miles I am going to need new ones, I was thinking of giving it a shot.

Ha-ha, Rebecca! Yeah, that would work! :D

Olivia, I'm sort of blond too! lol Thanks for adding me to your blogroll!

Uh, frankly, Will, I have no idea! My dad would know probably, but it's not my car, so I don't really keep track of that stuff. Yeah, we got it at Costco.
