Uh, thanks...

So the theme for this week's American Idol is "songs from the year you were born". Hmm...should be interesting. None of the contestants are the same age I am, so we won't hear any songs from '89, but there are some cool ones from that year! Well, fairly cool, in a weird eighties sort of way. Like:

We Didn't Start the Fire ~Billy Joel
Stand ~R.E.M.
Orinoco Flow ~Enya

Free Falling ~Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Runnin' Down a Dream
I Won't Back Down

And a whole list of songs from '89, I only recognized about thirty of them.

So there...I feel younger now...after being told on Sunday that I was really old. "Wow, you're old! You're going to be nineteen in September? Man..." and then from an eight-year-old, "Yeah, because nineteen is almost twenty!" And when you're eight, twenty is just about dead I guess! :p

Uh...hmm...do I act old for my age? I can see where they're coming from, I mean once you're eighteen you're officially an adult and you can get married and stuff, and I do occasionally feel very old thinking about that, because it isn't quite the same as when you were younger. I didn't think people started going on about that until you were like thirty or forty though! :D

So, yeah, I think I'll go take a nap...I get tired so easily these days. It's just not like being thirteen...these young people you know, they just run around non-stop. I can't do that... ;)

Oh, and I smelled the magnolia flowers when I went out to get the mail, and they smell very good. Not as strong as a big magnolia, more like honeysuckle. And I'm sure it was a funny sight for anyone who saw me trying to hold onto the pile of mail and bend in half to smell the flowers, because that tree's really only about a foot and a half tall! :p And we got a bunch of slippery catalogs in the mail...

So, who's this "brad" person and why does he get to decide what the top songs of 1989 were? This list sounds more familiar to me:

A couple of really good Don Henley songs on there, Way too much Paula Abdul. Milli Vanilli!!! You were born in the year of Milli Vanilli!

I know what you mean about the nap thing! Being eighteen, I feel so tired all the time ;) I wish I had the balls of energy those young'ns have :D

What really makes you feel old is when kids say "Yes sir" "Yes ma'am" I actually have had kids call me Mr. William, that is pretty bad as well...

Yeah, when I turned eighteen, several of the kids at church started calling me "Miss Roth" just to annoy me...

What I've also had happen is I smile at a little kid, and they get this really shy awed look on their face...and I remember that oh yeah, I'm a big tall scary teenager now! Because I remember feeling like that when I was little! :D

Ug, I babysit for this family and they call me miss Olivia. It drives me nuts!! I'm always telling them they can just call me Olivia :)

They were calling me Miss Rebecca in the nursery when I was like 14. Ugh.

I know I'm just an old curmudgeonly coot, but those same kids that are calling you "Miss Rebecca" and "Miss Natalie" are probably going to refer to you as "Mrs. X" when you're in your ripe old age.

The ones that just tug at your shirt and bark "Hey, teacher!" are the same ones who'll call their elderly neighbor by her first name when they're in their teens.

In other words, even though it's uncomfortable for you, it's a good thing that these kids have learned to show some elements of proper respect to their elders.

Well, that's true...it just makes you feel old is all. :)

My parents are very strict about calling older people ma'am and sir, so it's totally driven into me and just comes out automatically sometimes, even when I'm talking to people my age! They always look at me funny and are like, "What did you just say??" :p

I don't feel too old yet. After all, I'm not almost 20! :P

Lucky you, Rebecca...you'll come to my funeral, right? ;)

Sure! Unless Uncle Jim is there, telling everyone to sit down so we can get this thing started! :D

Of course, he's even older than you...
